| Preamble: |
| Whereas | The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America has chartered Locals and District Councils in all parts of Canada, as well as Provincial Councils in most Provinces; and |
| Whereas | Federal and Provincial legislative programs are more now than ever having an, and in most instances an adverse, impact upon the United Brotherhood's members in Canada; and |
| Whereas | The Canadian Building Trades Conferences and the Canadian Congress conventions are adopting policies and actions which also have a direct impact upon the United Brotherhood in Canada; and |
| Whereas | A united stand by the United Brotherhood in Canada is needed now more than ever to achieve the maximum strength to influence government legislation and to participate to the fullest in central labour bodies; and |
| Whereas | A summary of the aims and objectives of the Brotherhood are to encourage the apprenticeship system, and to improve the quality of life of working people through organizing, collective bargaining, education, health and safety, and legislative changes; and |
| Whereas | Delegates to the 1993 Constitution Convention of the United Brotherhood approved the chartering of a Canada Council: |
| Therefore be it resolved | That every Provincial Council, District Council and Local Union be encouraged to support and participate in the activities of the Canada Council. |
| Article I -- Name of Organization | ![]() |
| This organization, a duly chartered body of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, shall be known as the Canada Council. | |
| Article II - Aims and Objectives | |
| The aim and objectives of the Canada Council shall be: |
| 1. | to advance the interests of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America in Canada; |
| 2. | to develop a united position of all levels of the Brotherhood in Canada on matters affecting the members of the Brotherhood in Canada; |
| 3. | to develop united positions of Brotherhood delegates to central labour bodies; |
| 4. | to co-ordinate the interests of the affiliates of the Canada Council and to promote harmony and solidarity within the organization; |
| 5. | to encourage full affiliation of all chartered Local Unions to Provincial Councils in their respective jurisdictions; |
| 6. | to disseminate information to all affiliates of the Canada Council on collective agreements and contractors operating on an inter-provincial or national basis; |
| 7. | to arrange for exchange of information on provincial and national legislative activities in the respective jurisdictions, and to work co-operatively to combat or prevent anti-labour legislation; |
| 8. | to present briefs and make representations at the federal level of government on matters affecting members of the United Brotherhood in Canada. |
Article III -- Our Principles
The Canada Council pledges full support to the Objects and Principles of the United Brotherhood as laid down in its Constitution and Laws.
