Canada Council Bylaws

Approved by First General Vice President
Paschal M. McGuinness

May 12, 1995

Preamble:

Whereas The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America has chartered Locals and District Councils in all parts of Canada, as well as Provincial Councils in most Provinces; and
Whereas Federal and Provincial legislative programs are more now than ever having an, and in most instances an adverse, impact upon the United Brotherhood's members in Canada; and
Whereas The Canadian Building Trades Conferences and the Canadian Congress conventions are adopting policies and actions which also have a direct impact upon the United Brotherhood in Canada; and
Whereas A united stand by the United Brotherhood in Canada is needed now more than ever to achieve the maximum strength to influence government legislation and to participate to the fullest in central labour bodies; and
Whereas A summary of the aims and objectives of the Brotherhood are to encourage the apprenticeship system, and to improve the quality of life of working people through organizing, collective bargaining, education, health and safety, and legislative changes; and
Whereas Delegates to the 1993 Constitution Convention of the United Brotherhood approved the chartering of a Canada Council:
Therefore be it resolved     That every Provincial Council, District Council and Local Union be encouraged to support and participate in the activities of the Canada Council.
