Cleaning window tracks

You probably love to open your windows and let sunshine blow away any sense of stuffiness in your house. If your windows were shut for a long period of time, say during winter, there’s a high likelihood your window tracks will have gathered grime and dirt over time. For many homeowners, cleaning window tracks is often a tedious task because most are grimy. It’s startling how easily window tracks can become grimy. Pet hair, dust, food particles, dirt, and who knows what else! No worries though because there is a way to get it done fast and with minimal effort on your part. Read on.

You’ve probably heard of the secret about vinegar and baking soda being effective natural cleaners for a long time now. Thus, you shouldn’t be overly surprised to discover that these household products can do a great job of cleaning your grimy window tracks.

You’ll need:

  • White vinegar
  • Old toothbrush
  • Baking soda
  • Butter knife
  • Microfiber cloths
  • Paper towel
  • Spray bottle

  1. Pour a cup of vinegar into the spray bottle, and ensure the nozzle is set to steam.

  1. Use the butter knife to eliminate any loose debris on the window track.

  1. Sprinkle a small amount of baking soda all over your window track, especially in the corners where dirt and grime like to hide. Avoid using too much baking soda or else it will fizz wildly when it comes into contact with vinegar, thus creating a whole new mess for clean up.

  1. Spray a little vinegar on the baking soda to dampen the window track. You’ll notice a few bubbles which signal a reaction between the baking soda and vinegar. This is a good sign.

  1. Allow it to settle for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, these cleaning solutions are working their magic on the dingy track.

  1. Come back and use the old toothbrush to loosen all that slime along the track. Ideally, work all that grime towards the middle of the window track.

  1. Use a paper towel to pick up all that filth at the center and throw it away. The sight of the filth might be unpleasant but don’t worry.

  1. Wet your microfiber cloth and begin scrubbing the tracks to get rid of what is left. To get better access to the corners for a thorough clean up, cover the butter knife with the microfiber cloth and continue with the cleaning process.

  1. Repeat the above-mentioned steps 3 to 8 until your window track is spotlessly clean. Because your microfiber cloth will be dirty after the initial scrubbing, replace it with a clean one and give the entire track one final wipe down.

  1. Take a step back and admire your work that has all the hallmarks of a pro window cleaner.

If you have a hectic schedule you hardly have the time to clean your house let alone your window tracks, hire the services of a professional window cleaner. They can guarantee you a spotlessly clean window track so you can enjoy the cool breezes into your living room.
